The dual language immersion program at Brookhurst, also known as the Global Leadership and Language Academy, is a program that is focused on developing bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural student leaders.
Program Requirements:
To qualify for the dual immersion program, an incoming 7th-grade student must currently be enrolled in a K-6th dual immersion language program OR be a heritage speaker and complete the following two steps.
1. Fill out the interest form.

Step 2: Take and pass the Spanish Placement Test to qualify for Dual Immersion and Spanish Speakers 2 as a 7th grader.

I was born and raised in La Habra, CA.
I earned a Bachelor's in chemistry from Cal State Fullerton and also went to the University of Georgia. I received my Masters and Credential from National University.>
I have been teaching for 26 years. I started teaching at South Junior High and taught there for 20 years. During those years I was the department chair for 15 years and professional development coordinator for a year.
I was part of TACIB grant from Cal State Fullerton and earned my biliteracy credential.
I have been at Brookhurst, teaching the GLLA science program for 6 years. I also teach 8th-grade science and also teach honors 7th-grade science for the Cambridge Virtual Academy.
I also emcee Awards night. I have been doing this event at Brookhurst and South for 6 years.
Spanish Teacher: Stephanie Pinedo
I grew up in Anaheim, CA. I went to Gauer Elementary, Brookhusrt Jr High, and Savanna High School. I went to Cal State Long Beach and earned my Bachelor's Degree in Spanish with a minor in Latin American Studies. I earned my Master's Degree from Cal State Fullerton in 2014. I have taught for 15 years and have been at Brookhurst for 6 years.
History Teacher: Xitlaly Sanchez
I was born and raised in Santa Ana, CA. I earned a dual BA in Sociology and in Latin American and Caribbean Studies from Scripps College. I earned my MA in Urban Education and my teaching credential from UCLA’s Teacher Education Program.
While in college, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Cuba, where I took history, sociology, gender studies, and biology classes at the University of Havana.
After college, I taught English as a second language in Mexico City as a Fulbright Scholar. I have taught 7-12 grade history in Los Angeles, CA, and Santa Ana, CA.
This is my fourth year at Brookhurst Jr High. I teach 8th grade U.S. History and 7th grade World History in Spanish as part of the GLLA program. I am also our Community School Teacher Lead.
During my free time, I enjoy hiking, cooking, dancing, and reading.
